Telephone Notification System

The telephone notification system allows patrons direct access without coming to the library.
It saves time by handling patron account functions over the phone.


WHEN THE SYSTEM CALLS YOU . . . .

The telephone calling system will call one time per day for 10 days. If it does not get an answer it will generate a mail notice. The system works from 9 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday, and 12 pm - 5 pm on Sunday. The system will call on all days except holidays.

Item renewal policies still apply. If an item is reserved, the system will inform the patron that the item may not be renewed. If you have blocks on your library record you will not be permitted to perform certain functions. For additional information, you may contact any branch of the Ouachita Parish Public Library.

Each day, a list of patrons with overdue items or items being held is generated by the notification system. The patrons on the generated list will be contacted by the notification system. Before the notification system will deliver the message, it will ask for verification to confirm that the person answering the call is the person for which the message is intended. Have your library barcode ready for this verification process. 

If the person indicates the intended patron is not available, the system hangs up and calls another time. When there is no response, the telephone calling system assumes an answering machine has answered and delivers the message. All notifications are noted on the patron record.

When the patron is told that an item is overdue,  the option to renew that item and to hear current fines is given. If an item is being held, the patron may confirm the hold or cancel the hold. Patrons not reached by the telephone notification system will receive a paper notice for overdues.


WHEN YOU CALL THE SYSTEM. . . .

1. Call (318) 327-1497.
2. Identify yourself by entering your library card barcode number.
3. Once prompted, enter your library account PIN number. By default, your library account PIN number is the last four digits of the telephone number on file.
4. Select the appropriate menu option. To repeat menu options, press (#).

  • Renew Titles
  • List Items Checked out on Patron Account
  • List Items on Hold
  • Cancel Items on Hold
  • List Fines and Fees

5. Once actions are completed, patron account is automatically updated.

*If you have any blocks on your library account you will not be permitted to perform some functions, like renewing an item. Call any branch for more information.

*You must use a touch-tone phone and have a library card barcode number.
