On March 12, 2025, our Library staff, along with members of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, the Library Board, and other local officials, gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Main Branch building at 1000 Oliver Road in Monroe. The new branch, set to open in 2026, will provide additional resources for the parish. Patrons will have access to more than just books, with resources such as a podcast room, makerspace, and telehealth booth. Nancy Green, Acting Director of the Library, shared her excitement about the new building saying, “This fresh, modern space will allow for innovations in all library services and is an investment in the growth and development of Ouachita Parish.”
Our Library is a place where residents from all walks of life can come together, not just to read, but to connect with others. LaKeisha Bosworth, Assistant Director of the Library, stated “The new Main Branch is more than just a building—it’s a commitment to the future of Ouachita Parish. We are excited to continue empowering our community with resources, technology, and opportunities that inspire lifelong learning.”
As the parish grows, the Library must grow alongside it. The new Main Branch will provide more space for creativity and collaboration. The current Main Branch has served the parish well since 1916 but much-needed space and improvements will carry the legacy of the Ouachita Parish Public Library into the future. We look forward to better serving our community, fostering lifelong learning, and promoting literacy across the parish.
