Library to give books away to kids and teens on March 2
To celebrate Read Across America Day on March 2, the Library will give away free books to children and teens who have Ouachita Parish Public Library cards. No matter if they have had a Library card for years or if they sign up on March 2, all children and teens who have a card are eligible to receive a free book to keep. Books will be available at all branches only on March 2, while supplies last.
Children and teens ages 16 and under must have a parent or legal guardian register the card for them. To register your child for a Library card, simply fill out a form at any branch and bring proof of identity (like a driver’s license) and proof of address (like a postmarked piece of mail addressed to the guardian). “A critical part of our library’s mission is to advance literacy in Ouachita Parish and one of the best ways to do that is to put books in the hands of our children,” said Library Director Robin Toms. “It’s important that children use their Library card to borrow thousands of books, but having books of their own helps create confidence and a sense of achievement that can actually lead to improved reading skills.”
Library cards give children and teens access to picture books, chapter books, young adult books, magazines and books-on-CD.
