The Ouachita Parish Public Library System (OPPLS) is accepting applications for the position of Library Director. The System serves a population of 153,279 with 10 facilities and a Bookmobile; and operates with an annual budget of $9 million. The System has a staff of 103 with 12 professional librarians. The Board is seeking an experienced director with talent and demonstrated leadership and with astute vision to take the library system to the next level. The Director reports to an 8-member Board of Control.

The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, proven fiscal knowledge, adequate understanding of current library technologies and trends, and superb ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the stakeholders; namely, Board, administrators, supervisors, employees, parish officials and departments, organizations, and the public.

The candidate must have a MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, plus 10 years of management experience, either as director or assistant director. The candidate must be certified (or be able to attain certification within 1st year of employment) by the Louisiana State Board of Library Examiners. The candidate’s salary will be based on qualifications and experience, beginning at $100,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
